Seems like you can’t open a newspaper or surf the internet this time of year without see a laundry list of recommendations for New Year’s resolutions. This past weekend The Post & Courier Money section was packed with resolutions and things you need to do in 2012…now.
As much as I’m inclined to share my own thoughts in this area, thought I’d change it around just a bit. I’m calling this Random Observations in January, aka, three interesting things I’ve noticed in the past week or two:
First, there may have been a paradigm shift in the Occupy movement…since it seems everyone is now occupying the mall on weekends. ‘Holiday shopping’ may be over, but general shopping doesn’t seem to have slowed…or at least hanging out and pretending to shop anyway.
Second, Surcharge-free ATM’s at Kangaroo gas stations in the lowcountry. This is a time…and money…saver. If you look close, you’ll see at least two of the ATM networks focus on credit unions (including CO-OP which South Carolina Federal Credit Union uses). Seems as if Kangaroos are everyone I go, so this is an added bonus for me. By the way, how much are we enjoying relatively low gas prices this winter?
Third, Coca-Cola Freestyle soda machines. If you haven’t used one yet, you need to search one out. You select your Coke product from a cool video screen and the machine dispenses your beverage. Even better, you have 100+ Coke flavor options which you can mix and match. I used the Freestyle machine at Moe’s. Firehouse Subs also has them. Expect to see Freestyle soda machines popping up all over.
OK, enough of this frivolity. We’ve got a “First in the South” Primary here in South Carolina just around the corner. Are you ready to exercise your right as an American citizen? Tune in next week when we get more serious and discuss this upcoming election.
