Be A Mentor held their Mentor Appreciation Celebration on Wednesday, May 2 to honor their dedicated mentors in the Charleston area. Nearly 200 mentors attended, including several South Carolina Federal employees.
Be A Mentor was founded in 2004 and has since recruited more than 1,000 mentors. Jessica and I mentor two second grade girls at Pinehurst Elementary. We make the trip once a week to visit with them during their lunch period. My mentee, Elizabeth, and I talk about anything and everything from what’s going on at school, how her day is going, what she did over the weekend and how quickly her newborn sister is growing.
Even though I’m still getting the hang of it, it’s been a very rewarding experience. Interested in becoming a mentor? Visit beamentornow.org and complete the volunteer application.
