Halloween: there's something scarier

Guest blogger Corey reveals what frightens him most this Halloween.

CFink It’s Halloween again. And as usual things get a little scarier in October. But this year, I’m more afraid than usual. No, it’s not the oversized spider in my neighbor’s hedgerow nor the pop-up cemetery in the yard down the road.

This year, it’s politicians. If you really want to scare me, come to my door step dressed as an elected official being pursued by the national press. Where is the common sense in Washington!? I don’t care if you’re republican or democrat, all Americans should be concerned about what is going on.

Specifics? We allowed our government to provide some assistance money to broken businesses and then tell entire industries how to run their companies and who to fire. I thought they were politicians, not auto manufacturers nor bankers. The current healthcare system does not adequately provide for our veterans and they think we should give them the entire portfolio!? New generals are being fired and hired to bring resolution to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet the advice of General McChrystal is not valued!?

As an employee of a financial institution, I frequently hear about new legislation being proposed that would alter the way we do serve you (read Troy’s post about credit and debit card processes). The politicians think they know what is best for America, but they clearly don’t have all the facts. It is time to face the ghouls and goblins, get involved in politics, and give them a scare for a change. So instead of “Trick or Treat” have your kids shout “You Lie!” this year.  Are you afraid?

Great comments but that SC Federal employee you are shaking hands with looks kinda stiff.

Whatever happened to old fashioned business?

Look where we got today. All through hard-work and the motive of bettering yourself.

If people are going to be employed but not have any rights to their job-title, what’s the point showing up to work? You’re basically just another body sitting an office, waiting to be told how to do your job.

I understand change in the work-place is a good thing, different procedures, new technology but we need to be able to do our jobs.

Hunter… did you respond to the correct blog? If yes, did you read it one time before hitting “post”?

Couldn’t agree more, Corey. I think many people that voted for “change” are getting more than they bargained for. Bush screwed up a lot, but it was simple things like “internets” and other poor grammar. But Obama has promised a bunch of things he can’t deliver. We’ll be seeing more of that with the next election cycle, I’m sure.

Arent there a few thousand political blogs that you can save your rants for? It would be nice if the Credit Uunion blog was actually focused on personal finances and Credit Union related information, and not a soapbox for people to air their political views, theres plenty of places that have that covered online already.

    Corey,

I couldn’t agree more. I think that people really need realize what politicians stand for prior to going to the polls and voting.

    Palin,

I believe that Corey’s blog post was trying to tie scary politics to the Credit Union and how bigger government can affect the way the Credit Union serves their members. There are thousands of other cites that you can go to, but none that actually link these two topics together. I don’t believe that he was ranting more stating facts. The facts are that the government is getting bigger. What does this mean for Americans? It means we are closer to Socialism! Now that’s SCARY!!!

We wish we could leave politics out of our financial business, but they have put their greasy fingers into it. They are forcing financial institutions to change products and services . . . that’s not a politicians job. The marketplace dictates to companies what is or is not needed. Most of those career politicians in Congress need to work in the real world for a while and see what it’s like. Term limits for them would be awesome, and a “You Lie” campaign would be a great thing for this country, because lies in Washington are piling up as fast as our national debt, the pages in Pelosi’s ridiculous health care bill, and sadly the deaths in Afghanistan.

To quote the late Barry Goldwater: “A government big enough to give you everything you want is just as big enough to take it all away.” Great post, Corey.
