How the Credit Union is Leading Technological Change

Last week the United States Postal Service announced a big move to change service standards. First-class mail delivery times will be longer. Hundreds of mail-processing centers will be closed. And, I’m sure another rate increase for stamps is not far away.

All of these changes will help the USPS with their goal of reducing operating costs by $20 billion by 2015.  By all measurements, electronic communications technology appears to be eroding usage of old fashioned “snail mail” at an unbelievable pace!

In many respects, your credit union is ahead of the curve here. South Carolina Federal Credit Union has been working behind the scenes to supplement branch infrastructure with a myriad of Online Banking, Phone Banking, Mobile Banking and Text Banking technologies. The great news is that members are actively embracing these technologies as evidenced by month-over-month increases in adoption of many of these services…especially the newest service: Text Banking

Of course, South Carolina Federal will continue to provide excellent member service via Tellers and Service Reps in Branches. But, for many existing and new members, especially those who have switched to South Carolina Federal, having access to these latest/greatest banking technologies is a must.

How about you? Do these technologies work for you? Are they Life Simplified? Are there any other “leading edge” banking services the credit union can be providing? Please share!

I am a fairly new member, formerly a BofA customer. While I love all of the technological options, and billpay has been GREAT so far, I would like to see all accounts consolidated under one (online) username and one password, along with the ability to give each individual acct. A nickname. In otherwords, if I have two checking accts. (with corresponding savings accts), I would like to sign in ONCE to access all four accts. I would then like to be able to give esch of the four accounts an individual nickname so that I don’t have to look up my acct number to know which acct is which. Other than that, my husband and I are so GLAD that we switched to SCFCU, even if BofA never charges that debit card fee.

Thanks for the feedback! In fact we do have a service called Multiple Account Management, which allows a member to use Online Banking to access multiple member accounts. To ensure this service fits your need, please either call our contact center at 843.797.8300 or visit one of our branches. With respect to your “nickname” suggestion…it’s a good one. We’ll see if we can add that to our development list for a future release. We’re glad you’re happy you made the switch as we’re thrilled to have you as a member!

Thank you for the response. You’re the first person that has told me about the Multiple Account Management! I’ll definately look into that.
