The 30th Annual Southeastern Wildlife Exposition begins on Friday and promises to be an exciting three-day event in downtown Charleston. Fondly referred to as “SEWE,” the exposition has grown to be the largest event of its kind in the nation, attracting hundreds of artists and exhibitors from around the world.
Last week, The Post and Courier featured an excellent article on the upcoming event, listing the most anticipated exhibitions, including:
- Decoy art
- Jack Hanna
- Chef demonstrations
- Center for Birds of Prey demonstration
- Retriever demonstrations
- Dock Dogs competitions
SEWE’s mission is to positively impact local and state economies through increased tourism to those areas. It sounds like they’re doing just that. According to their website, SEWE has an economic impact of $63.8 million annually to the state, bringing tourism to the Lowcountry at a traditionally slow time. In addition, SEWE provides the public with affordable access to cultural and educational opportunities as they relate to wildlife and nature conservation and preservation.

Are you planning to visit SEWE this weekend? What exhibitions are you looking forward to the most?

I absolutely LOVE Dock Dogs…last year, we saw a dog leap 22 feet in the air to retrieve it’s toy…craziness! It’s got to be my favorite part of SEWE
This year I am also looking forward to the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary show and love the Dock Dogs!
