Hold on to your creative hats here folks. Tough-talking Troy (thanks to some great internal sources) was just made aware moments ago of some debit card fraud info that can be avoided by adopting Today’s Tip from Troy. It is definitely worth stenciling on felt, cutting out and then gluing to the inside of your purse or wallet.
Tip from Troy … When using your debit card, select “credit” and process the transaction using a signature. With a signature you gain the extra security and peace of mind that comes from the purchase guaranties provided by VISA and MasterCard.
Based on an an excerpt from an ABC News online article, here is why. “If you shop at the popular Michaels craft store chain, your bank account may be in jeopardy. The U.S. Secret Service is investigating a debit card fraud case that started in Illinois and has now spread to 20 states. [South Carolina is not one of the 20 states mentioned so far as determined from a number of other online sources according to our own internal investigation.] Investigators say crooks tampered with PIN pads in the Michaels checkout lanes, allowing them to capture customers’ debit card and PIN numbers. Michaels now confirms that it found an astonishing 90 compromised PIN pads in 80 of its stores.”
Tough-talking Troy says get with the program and when you make your next purchase today tell the cashier, “Make this credit. I want to use my signature.” In addition to that great peace of mind, you’ll earn CU Reward points, too. Now there’s a tip you don’t want to find out the “tough” way.

All the more reason to suggest my wife stays out of those dern craft stores!!!
FYI – she’s reminded to press CREDIT everytime because of the $200 watch on her arm that she got free with her CUReward points 2 years ago. Currently saving up for free flight to Gramma’s (minnesota)
