This Friday America honors its military Veterans across the country. In Arlington National Cemetery there will be a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Throughout the country, from the Beaufort National Cemetery to big cities and small towns, Americans will be taking a moment to remember the sacrifices of our Veterans.
Locally here in the lowcountry, there will be a number of events, including a weekend of great events at Patriots Point. There will be concerts, a salute to the Armed Forces, even an inaugural Run for the Yorktown 5K on Saturday. Events culminate on Sunday with an all day Music Festival. Surrounded by historic landmarks, and with the Charleston Harbor as a backdrop, we are fortunate to have this venue in our city.
Within SiMPLE CENTS we’ve had a number of posts in past years to recognize our Veterans. Looking ahead, hope everyone will take a moment to honor the brave men and women who fight for our freedom – today and throughout the history of our great nation.

Special thanks to my dad who spent 21 years in the Navy, half of which was in a metal tube hundreds of feet underwater. I don’t know how he kept sane, but he’s my hero and I salute him.
Hats off to all you veterans out there.
I salute my dad who served in the US Marine Corps. Ooh-rah! Thank you to all the veterans. I am truly indebted to you and your families.
